Planning is underway to complete the 110 kilometre Wadandi Track, after the State Government’s committed $17.5 million to the project as part of its $165 million Outdoor Adventure Tourism package in May.

Showcasing the heritage of the former Busselton to Flinders Bay Railway, the track currently runs between Cowaramup and Sebbes Road in the AMR Shire.

The Department of Transport will work with the Shire of Augusta Margaret River, the City of Busselton and other stakeholders to deliver the project, which will include new and refurbished bridges, several smaller water crossings, new and upgraded sections of track and fencing, as well as wayfinding, interpretation and activation points.

Shire Manager Asset Services David Nicholson said initial meetings had considered options for project governance and delivery, and noted considerable pre-planning had already been undertaken.

“Over the past decade the Augusta-Margaret River Shire and the City of Busselton have done considerable pre-planning which provides a solid starting point to develop the project,” he said.

“This means, while some the project’s budget will be used to ensure the planned works comply with all of the latest construction standards and obtaining relevant approvals, the majority of the funding can be allocated to actual works.”

The Shire said the project would be delivered over the next four years.
