Young South West surfers have once again headed home after collecting major wins at WA’s latest surfing event, with Cowaramup’s Macklin Flynn and Margaret River’s Ruby Berry crowned King and Queen of the Point in Trigg over the weekend.
Flynn secured his maiden King of the Point victory in a titanic duel against local hero Luke Campbell (Scarborough).
Flynn’s commanding performance saw him post a two-wave combined total of 14.96, leaving his rival in pursuit of a formidable 8.07 when the final horn sounded.
Flynn’s conquest came off the back of an amazing season on the World Surf League (WSL) Qualifying Series (QS), where he finished 11th in the Australia/Oceania region.
The victory also secures his place into the Think Mental Health WA Trials, where he’ll challenge for a position into the Margaret River Pro in May.
“Luke is an inspiration and to take down one of the most winningest winners on his home break is pretty special,” an elated Flynn said.
“It’s an honour to win the King of the Point, it’s a prestigious event and to add my name alongside some true legends of WA is great.”
Berry reclaimed her rightful place on the throne, capturing her Queen of the Point title in a hard-fought duel with Yallingup’s Emma Cattlin.
The 2025 Open Women’s State Champion demonstrated experience and regal poise beyond her years, posting a two wave total of 13.95, that included a 7.25 and 6.70.
“I absolutely love this contest, and I’m so grateful to win the Queen of the Point for the second time,” she said.
“Emma is an incredible competitor, and she’s won here in the past so I knew it was going to be tough. I’m looking to the Trials, they are always intense, but I feel I’m up for the challenge.”
In the Under-21 Prince of the Point division, Margaret River’s Finn Lange delivered a memorable performance, scoring a 13.50 two-wave total, taking down his brother Reef Lange (Margaret River), Otis North (Yallingup), and Jake Hagan (Geraldton), in a seesawing 25 minute final.
Kaleisha Launders (Margaret River), was ice cold under pressure, edging out Ruby Berry, Grace Cook (Cowaramup), and Rosie Gillett (Dunsborough), in Under-21 Princess of the Point final.
Launders’ last wave earned her enough to move ahead of Berry by just 0.06 when the siren sounded, further cementing her status as one of the future Queens of WA surfing.
Ace Flynn (Cowaramup), captured the crown in the holy contested Under-16 Jester of the Point, with a gutsy victory over a field of rising young challengers.
Flynn followed in the footsteps of brother Macklin with a buzzer beating score of 6.50, to finish on a total of 12.38, to take down Cruz MacDonald (Geraldton), Ethan Anderson (Cowaramup) and Zenn Hammond (Gracetown).
“That was just a real nail-bitting and exciting final,” said Flynn.
“At one point everyone held the lead and I’m just so thankful for the support of everyone down here it’s been great!”
Ash Farrow (Dunsborough), showcased unyielding resolve and superior wave selection, capturing the Over-40 Lord of the Point title.
The Over-40 Men’s State Champion continued his winning ways in 2025 with a solid performance along the metro beaches, taking down local legend Mitch Loan (Trigg) on the back of a combined total of 11.56.
“It’s been a sick event and it’s nice to come up here and hang out with some friends and surf some heats,” said Farrow.
“Well done to all the guys in the final, Surfing WA and the City of Stirling for memorable weekend!”
Mark Clift (Trigg), ruled the Over-50 Duke of the Point division, with a strong game plan and powerful turns highlighting his performance.
Otis North won the Wave of the Weekend, scoring a near perfect 9.13.
