Busselton have confirmed they are a flag favourite after they defeated Bunbury at PC Payne Park on Sunday afternoon, in the final game of round twelve.
A good crowd was on hand for the top of the table clash, the windy conditions favouring the scoreboard end.
The home side started well, kicking the only three goals of the opening quarter with former Hawks player, Oscar Armstrong causing the Busselton defenders plenty of headaches.
While Bunbury kicked accurately, Busselton were the opposite, kicking five behinds in the opening term.
Busselton found their range in the second quarter, kicking five goals, with Ryan Ekert and Liam Creighton starting to get into the action.
Busselton would take the lead just before half time, leading by 9 points at the break.
The third term saw the game open up, with both sides kicking four goals apiece, with Busselton have a twelve point advantage.
Bunbury’s accuracy was keeping them in the contest, but in the final term it would be all Busselton, who would keep the Bulldogs goal-less.
When the final siren sounded, Busselton had amassed 29 scoring shots to Bunbury’s 13, winning by 31 points.
The final fifteen minutes of the match were hit by heavy rain, ending any chance of the Bulldogs making a late comeback.
Ryan Ekert and Aidan Austen played particularly well, with Austen winning the Think Mental Health game ball.
Bunbury will play Harvey Brunswick Leschenault next Sunday at Brunswick Oval, while Busselton will host the Hawks next Saturday.
