Feedback sought on Marybrook-Siesta Park erosion plan
Following the City of Busselton Council’s decision of 11 June 2025, the City is inviting the community to provide feedback on the draft Marybrook-Siesta Park Coastal Erosion Strategy, open for public comment from 21 July to 22 August 2025.
The Strategy outlines a long-term approach to managing coastal erosion in the Marybrook-Siesta Park area, developed in response to ongoing coastal hazard risks identified in the City’s 2021 Coastal Hazard Risk Management and Adaptation Plan (CHRMAP).
Following strong community support during initial engagement activities, including a survey, drop-in sessions and public displays, the preferred option moving forward is a groyne system.
The proposed design includes eight rock groynes along a portion of coastline between Lot 66 Caves Road and the western boundary of the Siesta Park Holiday Resort, supported by targeted beach nourishment to maintain a sand buffer and reduce downdrift erosion.
The draft Strategy also proposes a staged implementation, prioritising high-risk areas to the east.
A detailed monitoring and maintenance plan has been included, covering activities such as structural upkeep and ongoing beach nourishment.
“Community input has played a key role in shaping the Strategy so far and it’s vital that residents continue to have their say,” Acting Mayor Anne Ryan said.
“This strategy reflects what the community told us during the first round of engagement.
“We’re now seeking further feedback to ensure the final plan balances environmental protection, public safety and long-term coastal resilience.”
A community drop-in session will be held on Saturday, 2 August 2025 to provide more information and answer questions.
Community members can also provide feedback via the City’s Your Say Busselton engagement platform.
The City has secured funding support from the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage and public exhibition of the draft Strategy is a key milestone in unlocking the next stage of funding – $30,000 for implementation.
