For over three decades, the Wild Capers theatre group has brought stories to life on Dunsborough’s stage. As its passionate performers look towards the future, they search for new talent to write the next chapter in their remarkable 35-year tale.

The group is now opening its doors to anyone with a creative spark and a love of performance-from actors and musicians to backstage enthusiasts.

They’re eager to share their knowledge and experience with those who might discover the same joy in theatre that has driven them for so many years.

“Theatre has been our life,” says Margaret Seghini, a long-standing committee member who has helped build Wild Capers since 1992 along with her partner Peter.

Margaret and Peter have seen the group evolve alongside Dunsborough’s growing population. “When we started, there were 2,000 permanent residents here. Everybody knew each other; it was a very close community,” Margaret recalls.

“We did plays, musicals – you name it. We had endless energy, and the people behind us had energy. Energy is the keyword to theatre!” she added.

The group’s performances have brought warmth and joy to the community, with Margaret directing countless productions throughout the years.

“When you put on a show, you give all of yourself. You know you’ll invest three to five months of your life in it, so you give it everything you have, and it’s such a joyful thing!” Margaret said.

Wild Capers is searching for people interested in all aspects of theatre production. “We need set builders, costume creators-everything you can imagine. A lot of intricacies are involved in crafting a performance,” Margaret explained.

“So even if you think your talent or skills might not be useful, you’d be very surprised!”

Margaret points to her partner Peter as a perfect example of hidden theatrical talent.

“Peter had never performed before he met me,” she shares, “but he turned out to be one of our best actors!” After discovering his innate talent, Peter, like so many others, was hooked by the magic of theatre.

“The thrill of putting on a really good show is so hard to put into words,” Peter and Margaret said.

“Everybody enjoys the experience, the whole team, not just the audience! It’s incredible when you come together and create something magical on stage. You become part of this extraordinary thing.”

Now, at 84, the couple is ready to pass the torch.

“We want more than anything for this group to continue. It’s very important to us.”

“It’s time to hand it over to the next generation. We want people to fall in love with theatre again and see how it can transport you to another world and place.”

The group invites anyone interested in theatre, music, dancing, singing, acrobatics, and backstage crafts to attend their get-together on Thursday, November 7, at 7 pm.

The event will be held at St Georges Family Centre, 48 Gibney Street, Dunsborough. BYO drinks and food.

“It’s hard to convey how much this group means to us. Let’s keep it going!

“We have the resources, we can make whatever you want to happen. Bring your ideas and most of all…your energy!”
