South West surfers have taken out major titles over the weekend at the 2025 WA Junior Surfing Titles in Geraldton, with Dunsborough’s Maverick Wilson claiming his ninth career State Title.
More than 80 competitors converged on the Batavia Coast for the third and final stop of the three-event series.
In the Under-18 Boys, Jack Bulloch (Secret Harbour) stole the show, unleashing his best performance of the series to take the win, edging out an elite field of Maverick Wilson, Jetaya Hammond (Gracetown), and Okie Fraser (Margaret River).
Wilson’s second-place finish was enough to secure him the U18 State Title, thanks to a consistent run across the series with a first at Trigg and third at Margaret River.
“It was an epic weekend,” Wilson said. “Everyone’s surfing is next level this year so I’m super stoked to get this one. This is my last year in the juniors so it’s pretty sweet.”
In the U18 Girls final, Mia Jacobs (Gracetown) landed one of the highest heat totals of the event of 15.87, including a near-perfect 9.50 for a powerful layback hack on the end section.
Olive Hardy (Margaret River) claimed the U18 Girls State Title, with strong results at Margaret River and Trigg securing her position before the final.
Cruz Macdonald (Geraldton) delivered one of the event’s best performances to win the U16 Boys ahead of Ace Flynn (Cowaramup), Zenn Hammond (Gracetown) and Jahli Clarke (Cowaramup).
Competition was fierce in the U16 Girls final, with Leila Fraser’s (Margaret River) powerful rail work earning a 14.67 heat total (out of 20), enough to take the win ahead of Poppy Redman Carr (Dunsborough), Amelia Boxall (Quindalup) and Grace Cook (Cowaramup).
The U16 Girls State Title came down to a countback between Fraser, Redman Carr, and Cook. Ultimately, it was Redman Carr who cinched the title.
Jasper Glossop (Margaret River) was in fine form, showing his style and flair in the U14 Boys and taking the U14 State Title.
In the U14 Girls, Rosie Annesley (Margaret River) put together her best heat of the event ahead of Lily Naylor (Cowaramup), Summer Barkhuizen (Eglinton), and Jessica Quayle (Exmouth).
Ily Fraser (Margaret River) was crowned the U14 Girls State Champion after dominant performances at the first two events.
The Under-12 Micro Grom divisions highlighted the future of surfing in style.
Finn Sapwell (Dunsborough) finished ahead of Eden Nicoll (Padbury), Vander McEwan (Marmion), Flynn Roberts (Cowaramup) and Oscar Cawley (Cowaramup).
Kyuss Rimmer (Trigg) was crowned the U12 Boys State Champion, and Luna Thomas (Margaret River) secured the U12 Girls State Title with wins at the opening two events.
