Donnybrook have defeated Carey Park at Boyanup Oval on Sunday afternoon, in round twenty of the Dale Alcock Homes South West, SWFL Premiership Season.

The Dons needed to win Sunday’s contest to give them hosting rights of an Elimination Final or face the Hawks at Gloucester Park.

The Dons conceded the opening two goals before kicking the next six, to open up a 21 point lead at quarter time. The dominance continued in the second term, kicking five goals to two, with the home side 37 points in front at the main break.

Beau Luzi, Luke Dale and Zac Jerrard were getting plenty of possessions, with Clarke-Dehring marking almost everything sent his way, with the talented youngster finishing the day with seven goals.

To the Panthers credit, they fought back in the second half and particularly dominated the last quarter. Trailing by 36 points at three quarter time, the Panthers stormed home but run out of time, with Donnybrook taking the win by twelve points.

The Dons will now face Augusta Margaret River in an Elimination Final, while the loss has seen last year’s Grand Finalists in Carey Park drop to seventh behind the Premiers in Busselton who finished sixth, to become just the seventh combination not to make finals the year being in the grand final.

Busselton too strong for Sharks

Busselton proved way too strong for Dunsborough on Sunday afternoon. Going into the match both teams had recorded strong wins the week prior, but it was evident early there was only going to be one winner, with Busselton dominating the contest in the first half.

The Magpies were incredibly accurate in front of goals, keeping Dunsborough goal-less through the opening half, conceding eleven goals.

Jed Kemp and Dylan Patterson were finding plenty of ways to kick goals, kicking ten goals between them.

Dunsborough eventually got the opening goal mid-way through the third term, but Busselton kicked five more to extend the margin to 92 points at three quarter time. The Sharks had their most productive quarter in the last kicking two goals, but Busselton were the convincing 106 point winners at the final siren.

Busselton finished the season in sixth place, while Dunsborough improved on last season, finishing eighth.

Collie saves best for last

The Collie Eagles have saved their best performance for the last game of the season, when they convincingly defeated the Harvey Bulls on Saturday afternoon at the Collie Recreation Ground.

It was the Eagles highest score since 15 August 2021 when the Eagles kicked nineteen goals against Donnybrook, and it was also their biggest winning margin over the Bulls, with the final margin 96 points.

The Eagles led all day, and finished with seven goals in the final term, the most goals the Eagles have kicked in a quarter since that match in 2021, when they kicked nine in the second term.

A part from the margin, the result ensured the Eagles moved from the bottom of the ladder, handing the eleventh position on the table to Eaton who had the bye.

It took nine minutes for the opening goal of the match, but after that time, it was all the Eagles, who kept the Bulls goal-less to half time. The Bulls held Collie to one goal in the third term, but the final term saw a wave of goals as the Collie faithful saw their team win its second game at home for the season.

Robert Chitty and Teale DeAngelis played good games for Collie, while Jayce Fontana kicked five goals, his biggest of the season, to finish on thirty goals for 2024.

Collie captain Talan Michael, played his 150th game and was amongst the best, with Eagles stalwarts Fontana and Adam Bignell chairing Michael off the ground at the conclusion of the match.
