Derby tide turns for Tigers

Eaton defeated Harvey Bulls on Sunday afternoon, in round nine of the SWFL season. The match was close throughout, with Eaton’s final quarter making all the difference.
The Boomers started well, leading by fourteen points at quarter time, but the Bulls fought back in the second quarter, with the margin just five points at the major break. The third quarter yielded eleven goals as Eaton extended the margin to 13 points, but the final term would see the home side finish much the better, kicking four goals to one, to run out 33 point winners.

Bunbury’s undefeated start to has come crashing down at the hands of their arch rivals, when South Bunbury won the WA Day Derby. The Bulldogs could not have started any better, kicking the opening two goals within four minutes, with Fraser Gilchrist and Dylan Heasman getting the Derby off to a cracking start. The Tigers then started to get their hands on the ball, but were unable to capitalise on their opportunities, hitting the post three times, ending the quarter with five behinds.
The second quarter is where the match turned, with the Tigers kicking five consecutive goals. Leading by 23 points, an errant kick in the centre of the ground found Heasman on the end of a long kick, giving the Bulldogs a bit of hope. That hope continued when Lucas Andrews goaled on the run, with the margin back to eleven. A late goal to Ethan Nordahl was not what the home fans wanted to see, as the Tigers kicked six goals for the term, leading by twenty points. The Tigers controlled the second half, with both sides kicking two goals each for the term, before kicking four unanswered goals in the final to record a 41 point win.

Donnybrook got the four points when they defeated the Collie Eagles on Sunday. They may have won, but they were made to work for it, as the plucky Eagles again took it up to one of the top teams, but were not quite able to get over the line.

Carey Park have twice been defeated by one point this season, but they held off the Lions in a pulsating final term to win by three points. The final term would be goal for goal, with multiple lead changes, but for the second time this season the Lions would give up a sizeable lead. Against Dunsborough they led by 36 points only to draw, while today they led by 34 points at the twenty four minute mark of the second quarter, to ultimate fall short by three points in a great game of football, which had the big crowd on the edge of their seats.

Augusta Margaret River held off Dunsborough in a thriller at Dunsborough Playing Fields. The Hawks would prevail by six points, but led by 16 points at the 15 minute mark of the final term, with goals to Caydhen Black and Dash Bridgham setting up a grandstand finish. AMR had 23 scoring shots to Dunsborough’s twelve, but it was as much the Hawks inaccuracy as the Sharks accuracy that kept the home side in the match. After an even opening quarter, Dunsborough didn’t score in the second as the Hawks took a ten point lead into the main break. Both sides kicked 3 goals each in the third term with Black getting the Sharks within four points, but a late steadying goal by Byron George had the visitors nine points in front at three quarter time.
