Council schedule changed for new year

The Busselton City Council will move to hold its meetings every two weeks this year, in what it says will speed up decisions and shorten meeting times.

At its November 2024 meeting, the Council made the decision to switch from monthly to fortnightly meetings throughout 2025.

“We recognise that the community expects us to be able to make decisions that affect them in an agile and timely manner,” Mayor Phill Cronin said.

“The pros and cons were weighed up and it was clear that fortnightly meetings will enable us to turn things around faster and to overcome issues with meetings running quite late into the evening.”

Mayor Cronin said monthly meetings meant longer agendas, leading to meetings running later.

“This has resulted in longer meetings which are not always easily accessible for members of the community,” he said.

“In October last year we needed to adjourn the meeting late into the evening and reconvene the following week to finish our business and this was far from ideal.”

The City said a mid-year and end of year recess will still occur and dates of meetings will be scheduled to avoid dates such as Easter and Anzac Day.

Dates for each of the Committees of Council have also been set in the 2025 schedule.

The calendar of meeting dates is available on the City’s website.
