Council gives green light for Gloucester Park gig
Margaret River’s football oval could soon see the return of outdoor concerts after Shire councillors gave the go ahead for a live music event to be planned for summer.
The decision was made at last month’s Council meeting, where the proposal to allow event organisers Macro Music Pty Ltd to plan the all ages event was approved.
The Shire said it would work with Macro Music to finalise plans and gain permits for the Gloucester Park event, with a date yet to be confirmed.
“I have really fond memories of the Margaret River Master concerts at the footy oval in the early 2000s, which were always great fun!” Shire President Julia Meldrum said.
“We haven’t had a music event of that size in our Shire for 13 years and the proposal presents a fantastic opportunity to bring our community together and give our young people a chance to make some memories of their own.”
Ms Meldrum said Shire staff had consulted with external and internal stakeholders to identify solutions to any potential risks associated with the event.
“Before presenting the proposal to Council, Shire staff were diligent in their research to consider the impact of the event and how any potential risks could be mitigated,” she said.
“The stakeholders they consulted were all supportive of the event and before anything is locked in there will be further consultation to prepare permits, licenses and management plans.”
Ms Meldrum said organisers estimated a potential 6,000 patrons could attend the concert, which could also attract visitors from outside the region.
“Events are a key ingredient for a vibrant region – underpinning the quality of life for residents, providing authentic experiences for visitors and helping boost the economy.”
Fremantle-based Macro Music is known for its festivals including Out Of The Woods, Good Day Sunshine and Here Comes the Sun, and have been responsible for events at 3 Oceans Winery since 2011.
