Margaret River group settler and lifetime resident Doris Arthur was surrounded by family and friends last week as she celebrated her 100th birthday on February 12.
Now a resident of William Carey Court in Busselton, Doris Lillian Swarbrick was born February 12, 1925 and lived independently in Margaret River until the age of 97.

With her family settling in the Osmington area on a Group Settlement property, Doris went to school at Bramley then later Osmington. She worked on the family farm until her marriage to Bon Arthur.
Together they ran their family farm and had three children, Ray, Val and Julie.
A life member of the Margaret River Bowls Club, the Margaret River & Districts Agricultural Society, and patron and Life Member of the Margaret River Golf Club, Doris has dedicated her life to community involvement and sporting activities, remaining a vibrant member of the local community and participating in hockey, tennis, bowls and golf.

She was a member of the CWA for 70 years and received the Paul Harris Rotary Award as well as a Volunteer Award from the local government in recognition of her extraordinary contribution to her community, and the nation.
Doris spent time as a member of the local Probus Club and Self Funded Retirees Club of WA.

“I guess Doris can attribute her longevity to a simple diet of eating her home grown veggies and meat,” daughter Val Wyld told the Mail.
“She is a non drinker and non smoker, and has enjoyed cooking and gardening throughout her life. Being busy and active has been her lifetime passion.”
