A new painting is brightening the walls of WA Country Health Service’s Busselton Health Campus – enhancing community connection and supporting the wellbeing of staff, patients, and visitors.

Designed and drawn on stretched canvas by local artist Carmen McFaull, the painting was gifted to the Capes VIEW (Voice, Interests and Education of Women) Club as a way of raising funds to support The Smith Family’s Learning for Life Program.

It was completed at the inaugural parish fun day, held in November 2024 – which was organised to embrace community fellowship in Dunsborough through the Catholic Church, Our Lady Of The Southern Cross and Our Lady of the Cape Primary School.

The completed artwork was framed with the combined generosity of a donation from a local parishioner, and Blue Wren framing.

Even kids lent a hand to ensure the work was completed beautifully before it went on display.

With a focus on community, Busselton Health Campus was selected to permanently display the piece in recognition of the support and high-quality care the hospital provides.

Displayed prominently in the main corridor, the brightly coloured artwork is inviting and welcoming, giving a sense of calm to one of the hospital’s main areas.

Acting Executive Director South West Jodie Omodei said the donation is a welcome addition to the hospital.

“Art plays an important role at Busselton Health Campus. We recognise the role art plays in connecting to our community and supporting wellbeing and recovery,” she said.

“This new artwork will be displayed front and centre at the hospital and is a welcome addition for all staff, patients, and visitors at the hospital.

The artwork was completed as part of an inaugural parish community day held in November last year.

“We are incredibly appreciative of the donation and time taken to create this beautiful work.”

President Capes VIEW Club Anne Russell-Brown said it was humbling to bring the community together through art.

“Capes VIEW members are delighted that this work – which was created through community coming together to express their connection through art – is on permanent display for the people of Busselton.”

Artist Carmen McFaull said she was thrilled with the outcome and was honoured to lead the project.

“What started out as one of many activities at a community fun day, has gathered momentum and led so many of us down such a worthy path, where children have inadvertently helped other kids to have more educational support,” she said.

“To see this displayed in the corridor leading to the children’s ward at the hospital validates the contribution I can make as an artist to my community.”
