Club rides out some tough conditions | Photos
The Indian Ocean Longboard Club (IOLC) held its third club round for the year at Injidup on Saturday, 3 May, with members taking on a challenging yet rewarding day in the surf.
The morning began with strong westerly winds, making for tricky conditions right from the outset.
Despite the decent swell bringing consistent waves, the session became more demanding as the day progressed, with competitors having to skilfully navigate a heavy weed build-up on the inside section.
The tough conditions, however, only added to the excitement, delivering an entertaining spectacle for surfers and spectators alike.
A heartfelt thank you goes to club member Kristen Handyside and her family, who generously hosted the post-event presentations at her beautiful Yallingup home.
Thanks also to sponsor David Burton from McCabes Lawyers, who generously provided Yahoo Surfboard vouchers, as well as Moonshine Surfboards and GH Produce for contributing extra prizes.
Congratulations to the Gill Warman Handicap winners from the day: Kris Handyside, Shae Sheridan, Steve Rayner, Bridget Churack, and Andrew Bland.
A special shout-out to the club’s newest members, who bravely tackled the testing conditions – a testament to the resilient spirit that defines the Indian Ocean Longboard Club. Well done to all competitors on another memorable round!
IOLC is still welcoming members and sponsors for 2025. The next club round will be held on 21 June, meeting at Yallingup in the morning. Follow our socials to stay tuned for upcoming club rounds and special events.
