From novice knights to experienced kings and queens, chess enthusiasts across the South West can test their strategies at the Bunbury Chess Open this May.
Following last year’s successful debut, which saw 20 players competing for glory, the tournament returns with prizes for all skill levels.
The two-day event, hosted by the Bunbury Chess Club at Manea College on May 17-18, welcomes players of all ages and abilities.
As chess enjoys renewed popularity thanks to TV series The Queen’s Gambit, this classical tournament offers the chance to take home cash prizes and a place on the championship trophy.
“Classical chess brings out the best in players,” Bunbury Chess Club Assistant President Geoff Lipton said.
“With big prizes and rating points available across all categories, there’s plenty to play for. Whether you’re new to tournaments or an experienced player, this weekend promises both challenge and fun.”
Games begin at 9:30 am on both Saturday and Sunday. Entry is $40 per player.
