The Margaret River HEART came alive last month with the spirit of solidarity, storytelling and strength as St Thomas More Primary School P&F’s Women Rising event returned for its second year.
Created to inspire, empower and connect women across our community, the evening was a resounding success, full of laughter, emotion and inspiration.
Coordinated by Laura Crothers, and emceed by Dr Kathryn Devine, the event showcased the extraordinary voices and contributions of local women.
More than 100 local women gathered to hear from three speakers, each offering their unique experiences and perspectives.
Passionate humanitarian and environmental advocate Ellie Ward spoke of place and belonging through her journey as an educator and environmentalist, while mother, cancer survivor and former foreign diplomat and specialist in poverty and conflict, Carrie Sunderland’s story illustrated the strength and impact of women in the most challenging of circumstances.
Richelle Russ, a Busselton-based playwright, also shared stories of creativity and resilience and spoke of wisdom in action.
“Three women’s stories, so different, but a thread could be pulled between them all,” Kendall Galbraith, CEO of RRR Women’s Network of WA said.
“From a journey of breast cancer and connecting with the healing powers of our environment and finding wisdom in action – so just get on with it!”.
Roka Crabb-Schultz shared a beautiful performance on the grand piano, while Hannah Wade offered her time as an Auslan support person for the evening, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility for all.
Hannah McLeod and Angela Zan from Tutu Dance School gave a high energy performance, and guests enjoyed delicious canapes generously provided by Anna and Brody from Taste Catering Co.
Prizes were generously donated by Charlotte O’Beirne from Swimming Women and Bronnley Cahill from Flametree Wines.
Adding to the community spirit, local groups and organisations were also on hand to share resources and raise awareness of the vital work being done across the region.
The team at Margaret River HEART went above and beyond – with event organisers offering “huge thanks” to the staff for their professionalism and generosity in helping make the event seamless and memorable.
“Friday’s event, in my hometown of Margaret River was unexpectedly exquisite,” Ms Galbraith continued.
“So much, the speakers’ words are still running around within me.”
