Capel collects flag over Busselton club

Capel Ladies 1st Division bowling team won the South West Bowling League Pennant Flag over Busselton last week on Thursday, March 6.

The win takes the Capel Bowling ladies record to a new level, winning the pennant flag 16 times out of the last 26 years.

Capel ladies finished in second spot at the end of the 14 home and away games, just behind Busselton.

They were victorious over Busselton in the semi- final on Tuesday March 4 at Busselton by one shot to win a place in the Grand Final.

Busselton then defeated Brunswick at Busselton on Wednesday also to earn a spot in the Grand Final.

The Grand Final was played on the neutral Binningup Bowling Green, where the Capel and Busselton teams faced off with great competition.

The Capel ladies pennant side comprised three teams of four players each playing in specialist positions on three different bowling rinks against the Busselton team.

These teams were: Pam Lloyd (lead), Gloria Clapp (second), Shirley Hickey (third) and Margaret Savickis (Skip).

Kathy Wood (lead), Marie Killian (second), Joy O’Brien (third) and Bev Scott (Skip).

Sally Earl (lead), Bev McKenna (second and Ladies Captain), Kylie Kammann (third) and Lorraine Pell (Skip).

Bowling enthusiasts were treated to a high calibre game with Capel winning overall by 9 shots over 21 ends played on each of the three bowling rinks.

The overall winning aggregate of the three teams was Capel scoring 55 shots and Busselton scoring 46 shots.
