Call for local volunteers to help with tax program

Ken Hunt assisted countless locals with their tax returns in his 4 years as a Tax Help volunteer at the Community Centre.
Do you have some time to spare and want to help Margaret River people get ahead of potential financial issues?
Margaret River Community Centre Tax Help volunteers are trained by the Australian Tax Office and are required for a few hours per week from July to October.
For over 15 years, Tax Help has been operating to help people who earn less than $70,000 per year to complete straight forward tax returns, lodge an amendments claim or create a myGov account using myTax.
It can be confusing trying to navigate the online tax forms if you haven’t completed a return for a while or don’t have a computer.
Not attending to yearly tax requirements can result in fines and prevent people from getting some government benefits, as well as the tax returns they could be owed.
“After 4 years filling the role, our wonderful volunteer Ken Hunt isn’t available this year, so we are looking for an additional volunteer to join the volunteer team to deliver this service at the Margaret River Community Centre,” Community Centre Manager, Lydell Huntly said.
No special experience is needed to be a Tax Help volunteer.
All training is provided and an ATO community liaison officer will oversee and guide you through the training then support you once you begin delivering Tax Help in your community.
Margaret River Community Centre will support volunteers and clients with booking arrangements and meeting space.
If you are interested in volunteering for Tax Help, please contact the Community Centre on 9757 3200 or email contact@mrcc.com.au.
