Busselton have started in the best way possible, when they easily accounted for Dunsborough before a big crowd at Sir Stewart Bovell Park, in round one of the Dale Alcock Homes South West, South West Football League premiership season.

The match was only a minute old with Mitchell Cameron kicked the opening goal, but he would go off the ground for a period of time with a shoulder injury.

A ruck infringement led to the Magpies second goal via Jozef Parkinson and when Liam Creighton kicked truly, the Magpies led by 17 points after just seven minutes.

Dunsborough would have some joy, with Bill Jones converting after a 50m penalty, but that was almost immediately negated by Jobi Hayward, as the Magpies consolidated their lead.

The ball was living almost entirely inside the Magpies scoring half, putting the Sharks defenders under enormous pressure, which would see the visitors trail at quarter time by 31 points.

Busselton would kick four goals to one in the second quarter of what had become a lop-sided contest, with the Sharks only goal of the term coming after the half time siren.

The third term was by far and away the most entertaining, with the Sharks matching it for the most part with Busselton, as both teams went goal for goal, but the margin was still 61 points at the final break.

The final quarter belonged to Busselton who kicked four goals in nine minutes, before a 17 minute period where neither team could score, as the very warm conditions took their toll.

An accurate Busselton won by 89 points, which puts the Magpies on top of the ladder after round one. The Magpies were too slick, and found targets more ofter than not, and the Sharks just weren’t able to match it with their near neighbour.

Busselton will face Augusta Margaret River in round two, with both teams winning across the weekend. Meanwhile, Dunsborough will play at home in round two against Donnybrook.

The Dons (9.7.61) prevailed at their newly renovated VC Mitchell Park, with a hard fought seventeen point win over Eaton (6.8.44) on Saturday evening, before 874 fans.

And South Bunbury (11.6.72) led for just 47 seconds in their match against Carey Park (10.11.71), stealing victory in the last minute of their opening match at Hands Memorial Oval.
