Busselton collectors come together for fair

Jesse Barry (12), Audrey (86) and Malcolm Paine (87) are active members of the collector's club, proving collecting is a hobby for all ages and interests.
The Busselton Collectors Club (BCC) will host its annual Antique & Collectables Fair on Saturday January 18, at the Busselton Vintage Car Club’s air-conditioned hall on Causeway Road.
The club has operated continuously since its establishment in 1972.
“The event has always been very community-minded, running raffles with quite considerable proceeds being fully donated to the Royal Flying Doctors Service each year,” a club spokesperson said.
Margaret Harris and her team of Youthcare volunteers will once again be operating the kitchen, while this year RFDS volunteers will also hold a raffle at the event.
The club is also calling for anyone who would like to join the vibrant group of members of all ages, including original members John and Stephanie Piper.
“The club’s age demographic ranges from our youngest member, Jesse Barry aged 12, to our oldest members Audrey and Malcolm Paine, who are 86 and 87 years.
“Jesse collects coins and special shot glasses; Audrey has quite a collection of hedgehogs while Malcolm, being a blacksmith, collects anvils.”
The club meets on the third Sunday of each month, “with more outings than actual meetings”.
“While the basis of the club is about history and collecting, it is also a very social club with some members just enjoying the outings and social side. The club is one of the few remaining in WA and truly is fun to be a part of.”
The fair will open from 9am to 5pm, with a variety of treasures available for sale and inspection. Entry is $5 per person, (children under 12 free).
