In fading light at Dunsborough Playing Fields last Friday a classic T20 cricket final was played out to decide the 13th edition of the T20 Dunsborough Premier League.
This year’s instalment saw the competition’s most successful franchise – The Boonies – go head to head with The Ricketies for the title.
On winning the toss the Boonies elected to bat and took to the field against the highly-credentialled Ricketies outfit that featured some the Busselton Margaret River Cricket Association’s best players.
Solid contributions from Ian Purcell (50no) and Jason Poore (40no) set up a solid target of 199 to win with the pick of the Ricketies bowlers Jesse Gautrey (1/40).
In reply, a lone hand by Ricketies skipper Cam Morris (60no) was not enough to see his side home, eventually falling 18 runs short.
Outgoing Boonies Captain Shamus Henry paid tribute to his side, painting a picture of a near flawless fielding performance.
“We were great in the field and held most of our catches,” he said. “Today’s win was even more special as we have managed to win despite the absence of the 2025 Boonlow winner Stewart King.”
Last minute fixture changes and work-related commitments had left the local star unavailable for the semi-final and thus the grand final.
With the competition forever expanding Boonies will now look to next season with the exciting news of incorporating a younger feel to the playing roster through the introduction of an internship within their franchise.
“This is exciting for us and gives our guys the opportunity to pass on the positive culture and cricketing wisdom that Boonies have been able to foster over the years.”
Incoming captain for next year, Jason Poore who is also the list manager, pointed to this internship as a sign that his ageing list was continuing to strive for relevance in the tight competition.
