Blackberry sour packs fruity punch

The Blackberry & Violet Petals Catharina Sour is the latest innovation from the boundary-pushing brewing team at Black Brewing Co. Pictures supplied.
Wilyabrup’s Black Brewing Co has introduced a new summery addition to its craft beer line up, which Head Brewer Gavin Williams said was “summer in a can”.
“This sour was a joy to produce,” Williams said.
“Rich berries with the unique botanical signature twist of violet petals make it pure summer freshness.”
The Blackberry & Violet Petals Catharina Sour sports a purple hue, with a botanical spritz of violet, and a fresh pop of blackberry, continuing Black Brewing Co’s ethos to create “sublime synergy” with its fruit and botanical-focused beers.

The brewery’s reputation for exceptional sours shows no sign of slowing down, their Aztec Sour clinching a gold medal at the Indie Awards in August and a silver medal pinned on the Blood Orange Ginger Sour.
The Brazilian-inspired, kettle-soured creation comes with an ABV of 4.2 percent and conjures lazy summer day vibes and colourful ocean sunsets, or as Gavin puts it, “it will captivate the senses and ascend the mind”.
The new brew is available online, on tap at the brewery on Caves Road and at selected liquor stores. “Kick back this summer at Black Brewery Co’s sundowner sessions with afternoon live music and evening DJ beats, and slip into foodie heaven with [our] new head chef’s East Asian-inspired menu.”
