Big day for basketball fans this weekend

Last year's Regional Roadshow was a big hit, and this year's event is expected to be bigger and better than ever. Image supplied.
Margaret River will host an exciting NBL1 West preseason event this weekend, promising a day of high-calibre basketball.
Margaret River Basketball Association (MRBA) President Kellene Harvey said the pre-season event would build on the success of last year’s matches, and would feature an even bigger lineup than 2024.
“[This year includes] the NBL1 Women’s team joining the action,” Kellene said.
“It’s so important for young girls in our region to see female athletes competing at this level, and we’re thrilled to bring this opportunity to Margaret River.”
As well as three games (4pm WABL1 Men; 6pm NBL1 Women; 8pm NBL1 Men), there will be activities for everyone to take part, including free junior basketball skill sessions, which Kellene said would be a great opportunity for young players to learn from the best.
“There’s also a coaching clinic with NBL1 Men’s Coach Jason Chalk, where local coaches can gain valuable insights and ask questions.”
Fans will have the rare chance to see top-tier basketball players in action in the regions, with the South West Slammers facing off against the East Perth Eagles.
“We’re also incredibly proud to celebrate local talent, with Margaret River’s own Art Harvey recently signing his 2025 NBL1 contract with the South West Slammers,” Kellene said. “It’s fantastic to see a local athlete being recognised at this level, and the Margaret River Basketball Association can’t wait to see Art in action this season.”
The NBL1 PreSeason Roadshow will take place at the Margaret River Rec Centre on Saturday, March 8. Entry is free to all games and sessions.
