Augusta Margaret River begins speed reduction trial

New road signs like this one installed in Gracetown last week, will begin appearing around the region this month.
Road users will see new speed signs installed across the region as the Shire of Augusta Margaret River’s reduced speed limit trial began last week.
The three year trial is being run in partnership with the RAC with support from Main Roads WA, and will test the impact of reduced speeds on around 550 roads across the shire.
Installation of new signs began in Gracetown, and is expected to continue over the next few months.
A Shire spokesperson said the program aimed to prevent crashes, serious injuries and deaths on local roads.
“The trial takes a proactive approach to road safety, prioritising the protection of our growing community.
“Drivers are encouraged to check for new speed signs and take care around workers installing signage.”
The Shire said community feedback will be sought and traffic and crash data will be analysed after 12 months, and again after 3 years.
