Alleged offenders hit with drugs, theft charges

Busselton Police say reports from the public and information provided through Crimestoppers is making a real difference in the local community.

Acting Senior Sergeant Chris Yexley said a Misuse of Drug Act search warrant was executed late last week in Geographe, resulting in the discovery of a large amount of cannabis, along with cash, methamphetamine and other drug paraphernalia.

“Four people at the address were arrested with enquiries continuing into the offences,” he said.

Please help us help the community, by continuing to supply us with the evidence we need to conduct these warrants.”

Sgt Yexley told the Mail there had been a slight increase in burglaries reported in recent weeks and asked locals to keep eyes and ears out.

“Overnight on May 23, the Busselton Senior High School canteen was broken into, with food products stolen.

“At this stage inquiries are continuing but asking if anyone knows anything or saw anything on the night should contact Crimestoppers.”

Sgt Yexley said it would also be alleged that three people were involved in breaking into Shelter Brewing on May 26, allegedly stealing alcohol.

“Due to extensive and swift enquires undertaken by Busselton police officers, three people were arrested and later charged with Aggravated Burglary and Stealing along with other unrelated offences,” he said.

“They have all been placed on strict bail conditions to appear in the Busselton Magistrates court at a later date.”

Also on May 26, a 30 year old female entered a corner store in West Busselton where it is alleged she stole several items.

“When confronted by staff at the front of the shop it will be further alleged she punched a retail worker before fleeing the scene. While conducting enquiries, police were notified of a further stealing at Hillzeez Busselton, which they quickly linked to this person.”

The female was apprehended and charged with five offences including three counts of stealing and assaulting a retail worker.

Her bail was refused and she was remanded into custody by the courts.

Sgt Yexley said this was an example of why police conduct covert operations with local shop owners, “to stop this before it happens”.

“Laws recently changed to protect retail workers from being assaulted whilst they go about their business,” he said.

“We want to stamp this behaviour out of our community. Everyone has a right to feel safe when they come to work.”
