Jetstar says more than 45,000 customers have flown between Sydney and Busselton airports since the launch of the route a year ago.
The airline celebrated the one year anniversary of the thrice-weekly flights last week, and said customers were using the Sydney route to connect with the South West from various parts of the country, as well as New Zealand.
“We’re thrilled to celebrate the one-year anniversary of our service from Sydney to Busselton Margaret River Airport,” Jenn Armor, Executive Manager at Jetstar said.
“It’s been fantastic to see more than 45,000 customers take advantage of this convenient connection, making it easier than ever to explore WA’s beautiful South West region. We look forward to continuing to provide affordable and accessible travel options for our customers.”
Mayor Phill Cronin said the City was “incredibly excited” to mark the one year milestone.
“One year after its launch, the new direct route between Sydney and Busselton has been really well received by locals and the corporate market, with interest as a destination continuing to grow,” he said.
“The service has provided further choice for travellers that’s improved connectivity not only to the east coast, but also to the international market and in doing so, boosting the region’s economy.”
Jetstar said the Airbus A320 flights had been well received by local industry, with reports of increased interstate visitors to South West attractions.
The Margaret River Busselton Tourism Association said visitation across the region was up on pre-COVID figures.
“Statistics indicate that domestic visitation is tracking down compared with post-pandemic highs, but at the same time, total visitation is tracking 5 percent above the pre-Covid 2019 benchmark (1.64 million for Year Ending December 2024 vs 1.56 million for Year Ending December 2019).”
