Busselton Hospice Care Inc provides vital support to those navigating the end-of-life journey, and bereavement care for families and individuals in the region.

Busselton Hospice Care Inc (BHCI) is calling for community members to join their passionate group of volunteers as part of its 2025 Recruitment Campaign, aimed at increasing the number of volunteers from Busselton, Dunsborough, and surrounding communities.

The not-for-profit organisation relies on volunteers from all walks of life to provide compassionate end-of-life care and support to individuals and their families in the Busselton region.

“Our volunteer-led programs offer emotional, social, and practical assistance, ensuring that everyone receives the care and dignity they deserve,” BHCI chief executive James Jarvis said.

This year’s recruitment campaign aims to help the group expand their reach with individuals from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds, “to help reflect the diversity of people we work with”.

“BHCI recognises the importance of having a volunteer base that mirrors the diversity of our community, ensuring that we can provide compassionate and culturally sensitive care to all.”

The current volunteer group delivers more than 6000 hours of volunteer time each year into the Busselton Health Campus’ Hospice Unit, with more than 16,000 volunteer hours gifted across the group’s wide range of programs and services.

“Volunteers bring diverse perspectives and skills to hospice care, enhancing the support provided to patients and their families.

“By volunteering, individuals can develop new skills, build meaningful connections, and experience personal growth. More importantly, their involvement ensures that no one faces end-of-life challenges alone.”

The BHCI volunteer group dedicates thousands of hours of time and energy to fellow locals through the Busselton Health Campus’ Hospice Unit and other programs and services.

Current BHCI volunteer Mark Gillett said joining the group and dedicating his time to those navigating the end of life journey had been “one of the most rewarding experiences of my life”.

“It’s not just about giving back; it’s about being part of a community that cares deeply for one another,” he said.
