A huge weekend as season kicks off for Hawks
The sound of leather on willow is back as the Margaret River Hawks Cricket Club gears up for an exciting new junior season, kicking off on Saturday, October 12.
This year, the focus is on fun, friendship, and growing the game. With a packed schedule of junior games, a club open day, and an intraclub match, it promises to be a day full of action and entertainment for the whole community.
The Hawks juniors will hit the ground running, with games scheduled across different venues. Most games will start bright and early at 8:00am, except for the Under 16s, who will begin at 12:00noon.
The action will see Hawks Green and Hawks Gold face off in a friendly rivalry at Nippers Oval. At Margaret River Primary School, the Stage 1 teams will also see Hawks Green take on Hawks Gold in a showdown that promises plenty of excitement and banter.
Meanwhile, Hawks Maroon will travel to Rapids Landing Primary School, where they’ll be up against Cowaramup, another local team eager for a fun, competitive game.
In the true spirit of cricket, these junior games are all about having fun, learning the ropes, and making friendships along the way.
Saturday doesn’t just mark the beginning of the junior cricket season, it’s also the Hawks Club Open Day! If you or your kids are curious about cricket but haven’t quite decided to join, this is the perfect opportunity to get involved and see what the sport is all about. Between 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM, Gloucester Park will come alive with family-friendly activities for everyone to enjoy.
There will be face painting, games, and cricket skills and drills for kids of all ages and abilities. Whether they’re seasoned pros or picking up a bat for the first time, there’ll be something for everyone to enjoy. It’s a great chance to meet the coaches, mingle with other families, and learn more about what the club offers.
Delicious snacks and drinks will be available, so whether you’re swinging a bat or just spectating, you can refuel and keep the energy high.
Seniors Gear Up for the Season
As the afternoon unfolds, the excitement doesn’t stop. At 3:00pm, the Hawks seniors will take to the field for an intra-club match-a great chance to see local talent in action as they prepare for their upcoming season, which kicks off the following week.
The match will be an entertaining spectacle, with a mix of experienced players and rising stars battling it out for bragging rights. It’s also the perfect time to cheer on the Hawks and show your support for the club ahead of another thrilling summer of cricket.
The intra-club game will also give junior players and their families a taste of what they can aspire to in the future. It’s a fantastic opportunity for younger players to see the senior team in action and experience the vibrant, community-focused atmosphere that defines the club.
Whether you’re a long-time fan, a new recruit, or someone looking to give cricket a go for the first time, this day is for you. It’s about making connections, enjoying the game, and embracing the values that make cricket special: teamwork, respect, and of course, fun!
So, mark your calendars for October 12 and head down to Gloucester Park. Whether you’re there to watch the juniors in the morning, join the open day festivities at noon, or stick around for the senior match in the afternoon, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
